German Chamomile
A scent of apples, with a shade of blue essential oil from the flowers…
German Chamomile is quite similar to Roman Chamomile with two distinct differences. It is higher in the terpinoid chamazulene (imparts a blue hue to the oil) and German Chamomile increases the water absorption of the dermis due to its high bisabolol content. I love using German chamomile in my skincare blends because of its deep moisturizing and humectant nature as well as its ability to inhibit the enzyme which causes the breakdown of collagen.
Like Roman Chamomile, German Chamomile is very soothing and can be used to ease gastrointestinal discomforts, reduce dermal inflammation, and sedate emotional and psychological tension driven behaviour. Both topical and aromatic uses are effective as are whole plant infusions into ethanol (think tequila infused Chamomile)!
